What Are The Reasons Behind Pain In Right Arm

The reasons behind pain in the right arm are numerous like bad posture ( leading to stress in the muscles), injuries in the arm or the shoulder or the nearby areas, pinching of neck nerves, herniated disc, cervical radiculitis (that causes pain and numbness ), strokes ( leads to pain and numbness in the right arm), damage or injury to bones, ligaments or tendons ( causes swelling and excessive pain), arthritis, overstretching of muscles, bicipital tendonitis, etc. The list of the reasons behind pain in the right arm goes on and on.

Starting with arthritis, which is one of the most common reasons behind pain in the right arm; it’s important to know that there are three types of arthritis: rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, and gouty arthritis. The most common among these three reasons behind pain in the right arm is rheumatoid arthritis. It is caused because of inflammation of the synovial membrane of the synovial joints. The synovial membrane secretes synovial fluids which in the case of rheumatoid arthritis become granular and deposit on the joints in the right arm and cause pain and uneasiness. It’s diagnosed by the presence of the rheumatoid factor which is a type of immunoglobin. The second one from among the long list of reasons behind pain in the right arm is osteoarthritis. It affects the articular joints in the right arm and is also very painful. Finally, the third one among the different reasons behind pain in the right arm is gouty arthritis which is caused because of excessive secretion of uric acid and its deposition on joints which makes them rough and causes wear and tear of the nearby tissues.

Other common reasons behind pain in the right arm such as pinched neck nerves and bicipital tendonitis are usually results of injuries or torn tendons and ligaments or overstretched muscles. In the case of pinched neck nerves, the pain spreads from one’s arm to one’s fingertips. They are usually caused by injury, irritation, swelling, or damage to the neck muscles and tendons. Bicipital tendonitis is caused because of torn tendons and ligaments in the shoulder because of strenuous exercises or over-exertion of the shoulder muscles. Heart strokes are again one of the many reasons behind pain in the right arm. It’s interesting to note that in all the above-stated reasons behind pain in the right arm, the pain was inflicted in the arm because of problems in some other part of the body. So arm pains are good indicators of many major problems affecting different parts of the body.

Bad posture is another contributing factor towards the reasons behind pain in the right arm as it causes muscular stress and thus causes pain. Poor posture also leads to pain in the arm as well as other parts of the body because bad posture deters the communication between the brain and the nerve signals leading to pain, numbness, and slow reflexes.

Furthermore, fractures are also another leading reason behind pain in the right arm. Fractures of the arm are of many times: partial fracture, complete fracture, incomplete fracture, transverse fracture, spiral fracture(at least one part of the bone is twisted), linear fracture, compacted fracture, etc. All these types of fractures painfully form a part of the reasons behind pain in the right arm.

Muscle spasms especially in the neck also form a part of the long list of reasons behind pain in the right arm. The main reasons behind muscular spasms are exposure to cold weather, sudden movement of one’s head, and compression of the nerves. Muscle spasms are very common and painful. It is more common in young individuals than in the old ones as the muscles and tendons in children are not very strong and tend to get twisted often. Muscular spasms can also be caused because of deficiency of potassium and electrolytes in the person’s body.

Incidentally when discussing reasons behind pain in the right arm, one cannot ignore the predominance of arm sprains and strains. Putting too much pressure on the arm muscles (like while doing weight lifting, swinging, throwing, gymnastics or swimming ) stretches the muscles, tendons, and ligaments which causes their breakage and fraying causing a lot of pain and difficulty in mobility thereby contributing towards reasons behind pain in the right arm.
