Paresthesia is another name for skin numbness. When your skin is numb it means that there is a sensory loss in that region of the skin; it could be the feet, hands, fingers, toes, or anywhere else on the body. While temporary numbness could be due to extreme cold or due to maintaining a particular stance for an extended period; numbness that worsens and/or spreads to other regions of the body with time should be thoroughly investigated by a health care professional.

Causes: Numbness is actually caused by the restricted blood flow to a particular region of the body or due to injury (or compression and stress) of nerves. When numbness is a symptom of a more serious health concern then it could turn fatal if not identified and treated promptly. The reasons that lead to the two conditions are several and varied.
