Rasayan In Ayurveda

Rasayan is one of the eight branches of Ayurveda, the ancient and holistic Indian medicinal system of more than 5000 years old. The texts of Ayurveda speak about the various natural processes and herbs that are used to heal and prevent diseases and also to maintain perfect health. Types of Rasayan

The most important Rasayan isKamya Rasayan meaning desire is further subdivided into the following categories:

  • Prana kamya – promotes longevity
  • Vayasthapan – for rejuvenation
  • Medhakamya – enhances intellect
  • Varna – improves complexion

The above are the natural desires of all humans and Rasayan helps to fulfill these desires. It is therefore named Kamya rasayan. Examples of Kamya Rasayan are Amalaki for Prana kamya and Brahmi for Medha kamya.

The examples of Rasayan are Chyavanaprasha, Pippali Rasayan, Triphala Rasayan and Shilajita Rasayan. Achara Rasayan is used in geriatrics, the treatment of the elderly.

The common herbs used in the preparation of Rasayan are Amla, which is the richest source of Vitamin C, Ashwagandha, Cardamom, cinnamon, nutmeg, and Pippali in combination with honey and ghee.
