Painkillers during Pregnancy: Are these Safe to Use

When you decide to be a parent, from now on you need to put your child before you in almost all the cases and the same goes for the time when you are pregnant, as the baby grows inside you it is obvious that the things you eat or do would directly affect the baby. Thus painkillers in pregnancy seem to be a controversial issue. In almost all the cases the doctors resist giving pain killers unless and until you have other health issues that cannot be treated without these painkillers. Although there are some painkillers that can be taken in the first and second trimester no painkiller is advisable in the third trimester as most of them can be the reason for blood loss at the time of delivery.

But when it comes to a pregnant when the question that comes is that are these painkillers safe for her, will they affect her adversely in a case? Well experts say yes, they believe that the taking of such medicines could have an adverse effect on the unborn child.

Salicylic acid proves to be very dangerous to pregnant women and her child and aspirin contain the ingredient in abundance. Therefore it is best if you avoid taking aspirin. Never take aspirin in your third tri-semester because it can be the reason for major blood loss at the time of labor. Aspirin is something that also hinders the working of platelets and can be the reason for blood loss in both child and the mother. Only if you are from preeclampsia, then and only then the doctor would recommend you to have aspirin in pregnancy because of the disease causes blood clots.

  1. Motrin:

This pain medical while pregnancy is safe in the period of the first and second trimester. The medicine is also known as Ibuprofen and it is advisable to consult a doctor before taking the medicine. Also, do not take Mortin during the third trimester it can also cause heavy blood loss at the time of delivery.

  1. Aleve:

Aleve works just like Mortin and should consult your doctor before taking it although you can consume the medicine on the first and the second trimester do not consume it in the third one because it can also be a reason for blood loss at the time of pregnancy.

Prescription painkillers and Narcotic drugs:

The most common of these is the opioids that come from the poppy plant. These opioids and other prescription painkillers are made of the drugs that are considered and are not permitted to be sold freely without a doctor’s prescription.

These drugs are to be taken according to proper dosage, not more than prescribed or less because of both the situations can prove to be dangerous for your child. Some point to be noted about these drugs are:

  1. Narcotic drugs are only taken in severe cases of pain such as high-level migraine or for unbeatable caused by a sudden injury because these medicines help you relax. It can also be used to get rid of the pain caused by surgeries.
  2. These prescription painkillers are considered to be too strong pregnant women, no doctor in the world would recommend you to take these heavy painkillers.
  3. These prescribed drugs could be ao much harmful that they can even lead to miscarriage, stillbirth or even it increases the chances of premature birth.
  4. The other major problem associated with these drugs is at in case you are not able to deliver your baby yourself that is without doctors professional help in that case when the baby is inside your body he or she might catch some problems such as low birth weight, breathing problems and more than required drowsiness that does not even allow you to feed the child.

If we exactly see by the names you should strictly stop the intake of following drugs such as Codeine, OxyContin (another name is oxycodone), Percocet (another name is oxycodone), Roxanol (another name is morphine), Demerol another name is  meperidine), Duragesic (another name is fentanyl)and last is Vicodin (another name is hydrocodone).

These painkillers during pregnancy are recommended by the doctor in rare to rare cases where the disease or health condition prevailing in the mother’s body is very serious and curing it over pregnancy with these medicines is important. Moreover, the non-treatment of the disease might result in a more serious outcome than possibilities of issues in pregnancy.

It is important to note that no pregnant women should take painkillers while they are pregnant without consulting the doctor. If you have unbearable pain then the doctor might suggest you other methods to deal with the same. Taking painkillers without the doctor’s advice is risking the birth of your child because these medicines can also lead to excessive blood loss and even miscarriage and breathing problem for the new-born in sensitive cases.
