Menorrhagia Heavy Bleeding Menstrual Cycle

First of all, let us know and understand what Menorrhagia is. Menorrhagia is a disease that occurs in women during menopause. In this case, women suffer from abnormal and heavy bleeding problems during the menstrual period.

Menorrhagia is caused due to abnormality in the blood, change in the hormone, and disorder of the uterus lining. Women normally menstruate for a maximum of five days but if any woman menstruates for a prolonged period like 7 days or more, then it is a clear chance of that person being infected with Menorrhagia. Women also experience pain and spasm during their menstrual period. A normal woman menstruates for five days and discharges 25ml to 80ml. If the period lasts for 7 days or more then the blood flow will also be more than 80ml. Hence, we can assume that the woman is a patient of Menorrhagia. This disease is also called hypermenorrhea.

If any woman menstruates for more than 7 days and the blood flow is more than the regular period (80ml), we can assume that the woman is showing symptoms of Menorrhagia. This disease is directly related to heavy bleeding during menopause. If you are a female and are suffering from heavy blood flow during the menstrual cycle, then you must consult a doctor immediately. In order to know and examine this disease, D&C (dilation and curettage) is used by medical experts. It is a minor process of scraping the inner lining of the uterus. The scrapped linings from the womb are tested and examined at the laboratory. This test can help the doctors to detect and know if the hormones are balanced or imbalanced.

After the woman is treated with D&C, she might face pain in the lower abdomen and probably have a backache. What are the actual causes for Menorrhagia? Well, there are various reasons for women to suffer from this disease. The lifestyle of the people and the eating habits, involvement in activities can be the factors that can bring change inside the body. When the hormones are changing, women can have longer menstrual periods or have a very heavy blood flow. If this disease is not treated on time, it can be a serious threat to the woman’s life.

Fibroids (non-cancerous tumors in the uterus) can also cause Menorrhagia in women. Other reasons could be a miscarriage, IUCD (Intra-Uterine Contraceptive Devices) – commonly known as Copper T, Psychological stress and overwork, etc. A famous saying says that every problem comes with a solution and so is Menorrhagia. Though this disease may be a danger to the life of women, it can be cured if timely medical treatment is given. In order to reduce heavy blood loss, doctors advise the patients to take iron supplements, non Steroidal Anti Inflammatory Drugs, Oral conceptive, and Progesterone.

Apart from the doctor’s advice, precautionary measures can be taken by women. Here are few things women can do.

  • Take adequate bed rest.
  • Should not participate in physical exercise and activities.
  • Take cold showers.
  • Stay away from tension.
