Have You Guided Your Child On Road Safety or Traffic Rules?

The parents will wait for their children at the main gate of their schools. When the final bell rings kids will come out running and hug their parents. The parents will hold the kid’s hand with one of their hands and their lunch bags in another hand and make them cross the road.

This might have happened with a lot of parents and for some, this might be a part of their daily schedule – crossing the road with your children. Even though this might sound like the most simple work, some do’s and don’t s are advised by the road safety team to ensure that both the parents and the children reach home safe without any sorts of accidents.

Top 6 Child safety tips on Roads or different traffic Rules:

Some of the road safety tips given by the World Health Organisation are:

1. Safe pedestrian crossings:

In India cities like Mumbai, Hyderabad, Delhi, Kolkata, small-sized shops selling almost anything are located on the footpath of the road making it almost impossible to walk on the footpath which is causing traffic disturbances leading to major accidents. You see accidents is not at all small things. It involves many families suffering directly and indirectly. Guide your children in such a way that they can walk safely on the road. Most preferably on the left side.

2. Never ever walk on the road doing some other thing :

This is the commonest mistake all the youngsters commit. They plug in the earphones and walk or more like do moonwalk on the road. This is very dangerous. This is the second most common reason for accidents to occur below the shops on the footpath. Always make sure that your children never take their earphones out while they are out on the road. If they do moonwalk right now, they might not be able to do even proper walk in the future.

3. Jumping signals:

This might sound stupid but trust me this is one of the reasons for accidents. You might think ‘what nonsense is this? Who has signals for pedestrians? ‘ but trust me there are rules for pedestrians to follow. Some of us cross the roads even though we see a green signal there. And another bunch of us just stand there not caring about the road signals. Doing what we want to. Guide your children in such a way that they observe their surroundings and drive accordingly.

4. Potholes:

Potholes in the road are not only troubling drivers but also troubling pedestrians. To avoid the potholes because it gets their shoes dirty or to avoid themselves from getting dirty, they walk in another direction which is making them more prone to accidents when they are on a rush road on a very bad weather day. So, to avoid accidents, my sincere advice is to fill the potholes if you want to avoid accidents to some extent and make the roads weather friendly.

5. Zebra crossing:

For pedestrians, this is the first thing they learn from their elders. How to cross the road is the key art to stay alive on the roads of India. If a slight mistake happens, then just be sure that your photo will be hung next with a garland around it and a diya under it. Do it the traditional way. Look left and right of the road. Make sure that there are no vehicles coming towards you. Walk on the white lines seeing the left and right sides of the road. After crossing the road, still, be careful till you reach the home. Guide your children in such a way that they can do this on their own without committing any mistakes.

6. Rage on others:

If you are frustrated with your boss or frustrated with your problems, never ever show them on the road. Let me tell you that’s a very very bad idea. Anger is that emotion which overpowers you and you will put yourself in great danger by letting your emotions overflow that too on the road. You yourself will dig your own grave if you do so. Guide your children in such a way that they can control their emotions and use them when it is necessary.

Conclusion:

Make your children responsible by letting them know about the basic meanings behind the signs on the roads and teach them how to act and guide others accordingly. Don’t think that this is a waste of time and they have a better world to do. This is one of their life-sustaining skills which will save them one day or another. Don’t just make them intelligent. Make them smart enough to tackle any situation they face in the long run of their lives.
