Human Artificial Insemination

In the simplest way, the term ‘human artificial insemination can be described as a technology that is a blessing for today’s generation. The callous and hectic lifestyle of the younger generation has made the natural process of reproduction less significant. The number of people opting for this technique is increasing with each day.

First of all, you need to understand what the process of artificial insemination in humans is. In artificial insemination, sperm is put into the reproductive tract of a female artificially. In natural insemination, this is done through sexual intercourse. Frozen or fresh sperm would be inserted into the uterus and vagina of the female in artificial insemination.

This process is mainly conducted for two reasons: one case is when a woman is unable to conceive in a natural way due to allergy towards sperm and the second situation when artificial insemination becomes significant is when the man has problems such as fewer sperm count and poor motility of the sperms. In these cases, the sperm would not be able to find the egg in natural ways or it may take a longer time. Also, in the cases of patients where the exact cause of infertility is not identified, this method is often used.

Once you are declared a suitable candidate for artificial insemination, there are a few things to be taken care of. The medical center you select for the purpose should be a reputed one. The procedure is done after ovulation begins in the female body. This would be confirmed by the medical professional before the procedure is started. If this is not diagnosed properly, the entire procedure can become ineffective.

There are specific instruments to be used in the process of artificial insemination which would be handled by qualified and experienced medical professionals. These instruments are made according to specific instructions so that the process is carried out smoothly. The insertion of semen is carried out two times in one cycle. On successful completion of the procedure, the woman undergoing the procedure would become pregnant. An important thing to be mentioned when talking about this process is the possibility of many conceptions. This is generally seen when drugs are used for stimulating fertility.

There are different types of techniques that are used in the process of artificial insemination in humans which are: intracervical insemination, intrauteral insemination, and intratubal insemination.

Intracervical Insemination: Here, the insertion of semen is done to the cervix of the woman with the use of needless syringes. This is almost same to the natural process of insemination and is the most popular and simpler among the methods.

Intrauteral insemination: In this process, a washed sperm is directly inserted into the uterus of the female. If unwashed sperm is inserted, there is a risk of cramping of the uterine followed by ejection of the sperm. The process is considered to be a complex one.

Intratubal insemination: in this, intrauteral and intratubal insemination is carried out to the fallopian tubes. Due to the low rates of success, this process is not followed by medical professionals during the present day.

In short, artificial insemination is becoming more and more popular. Today’s lifestyle has contributed significantly to the increasing popularity of this method. The difference lies only in the process, the pregnancy and delivery will take place naturally. The method used in the process would depend on various factors such as the woman’s age, health conditions, etc besides others.
