How to take care of yourself in pregnancy

Pregnancy is the most beautiful phase of a woman’s life and during these nine months, she has to take care of herself in such a way that both mother and baby stay fit and healthy. The families always play an important part in taking care of preggies but sometimes there are certain situations, like job or separation from relatives or something else, make the preggies far from their family. So, in that case, a pregnant lady should take care of herself to maintain the healthy health of baby and mom.

Before talking about the effective tips for healthy pregnancy lets us know that what is prenatal care and why it is necessary.

What is prenatal care?

Prenatal care is actually caring during the whole pregnancy period. If you are pregnant then it is very important to stay healthy and maintain a healthy pregnancy for the whole nine months. The care includes all the things which are beneficial for the baby and mother. Regular visits of doctors, healthy eating, the proper taking of supplements, exercises are some of the things which come under prenatal care.

Here are some of the basic tips which will give guidelines that how an alone woman can make herself fit for the whole nine months. Check out:

Doctors visit

It is very important for the pregnant lady to go for the regular doctor checkups because during pregnancy the ups and downs of your health are normal. If you are suffering from lack of any nutrients in your body at any month, the doctor will give you the supplements to maintain the level.

Here are some of the basic tests which you have to do monthly to know about your and baby’s health.

Urine test: The urine test will let you know whether you have any infection or not in the body which can harm your pregnancy. Apart from these, the urine test also informs about bacteria, high sugar levels, and high protein levels.

Blood test: This is checked to count your hemoglobin level, cell counts, blood type, iron level and any type of infections like HIV, hepatitis, and syphilis. This should be checked monthly so that if the Hemoglobin level decreases then it can be treated with supplements.

Uterus size: A pelvic test has been done to check the shape and size of your womb. This uterus size will say that baby in the womb is comfortable or not.

Ultrasounds: The ultrasounds are done to check the growth, development, and position of the baby.

Weight: Tracking your weight is important to see whether your weight is increasing normally or you are obsessing because of pregnancy.

Healthy Diet

It is very important to take a healthy diet to maintain the hygiene, weight, and growth of the baby. During pregnancy, healthy eating is the most important thing to care about for your and baby’s health. Some of the healthy eating are:

Fruits: The fruits are the best thing to eat during pregnancy because it gives energy and refreshing feel to the body. Red beet, pomegranate, apple, banana, etc, are some of the best foods to rock your pregnancy.

Vegetables: The green leafy vegetables are important for the body to get the iron and increase the level of hemoglobin. Always wash properly before eating any vegetables and especially to the leafy ones.

Dairy products: It is important to eat dairy products because it has much calcium which is beneficial for your body and your baby. Milk, curd, yogurt, buttermilk, paneer, etc. are some of the best dairy products which are beneficial for the preggies. But be sure while buying all these products. Take only the fresh one because the extended expiry dates dairy products can harm your pregnancy.

Water: Drink lots of water to keep your body hydrated. The proper intake of water will maintain the water level of the body which will be proved beneficial at the time of delivery.

Things to avoid

There are some foods which are not made for the pregnant ladies as it may high the risk of miscarriage. Foods like meat, fish, eggs, caffeine, etc. should be avoided or eat less. You can consult with your doctor to get the diet chart of foods which are beneficial.

Say no to alcohol and smoking

Immediately stop the intake of alcohol and smoking as soon as you have started to plan for a baby. This all thing is going to make hurdles in between conceiving the baby an if you have conceived and still drinking and smoking then it may harm the baby’s development. Even you should also avoid all these things while breastfeeding because it will then affect the baby’s health.

Relationship with Husband

It is very necessary to maintain a healthy relationship with husband to stay happy and healthy for the nine months. As we know that if we had a fight with a spouse then we are depressed. The depression during pregnancy is not good so it is better to maintain a healthy relationship with your husband.

Sexual relation: You are caring for yourself that doesn’t mean that you will avoid the sexual relationship. Sex during the second trimester of pregnancy will not harm the baby. Even if you have no complication in your pregnancy then you can also continue the sex in the third trimester. It is said that the last time sex helps in inducing the labor pain.

Prenatal Vitamins

The prenatal vitamins are very important because it is very helpful in the development of the brain and spinal cord of the baby. This development is done in the first month of pregnancy. The folic acid, calcium, and iron should be taken throughout the pregnancy. The doctors themselves prescribed these all prenatal medicines when you visit the first time to the doctor.

Exercise

Pregnancy exercise is very important to maintain a healthy pregnancy. The proper workout helps in reducing the stress, anxiety, and depression and helps in better sleep. Every pregnant woman should walk for at least half an hour to stay fit. Apart from walking, yoga, Pilates, Kegels exercise and other mild exercise are also beneficial for the baby and mother both.

Comfortable clothes

Pregnancy is the time to stay comfortable and free from tight clothes. As soon as you feel your baby bump, start changing your wardrobe. Go shopping for some comfortable clothes and shoes which does not bother your baby bump.

Body massage

The prenatal body massage is very important because it helps in relieving the  muscular discomforts, tension and knots, carpal tunnel syndrome, lower back pain, upper back pain, headaches,  sacroiliac and hip joint pain, leg cramps, sciatica, stiffness,  headaches,  nasal congestion, shortness of breath, heartburn and acid reflux, fatigue, varicose veins, edema of the lower extremities, neck pain and constipation.

Working Hours

If you have a normal pregnancy without any complication then you can work until you are tired. But your job place and environment play a vital role as because the presence of radiation, lead and other materials, such as copper and mercury, can be harmful to your baby. If it is sitting job for hours and you are uncomfortable then either take leave on the most sensitive days or change your time into half days.

Take rest

It is very important for your body to take rest while you are pregnant. Relaxation of your body will also relax your baby in the womb. Staying active is good while you are pregnant but taking rest is also necessary while your fatigue.

Common Pregnancy problems to care

Pregnancy is not an easy phase to survive. Pregnant ladies have to go through from many ups and downs to make their pregnancy period healthy.
