How to Survive Depression

Many people even today do not acknowledge clinical depression as an illness.  It is actually a serious illness that affects about 17 million Americans every year. But though surviving depression might be difficult, it is not an impossible task. There are several ways in which positive reinforcement from the people around a depressed person and a sincere effort by him can help him survive the emotional crisis.

Clinical depression is a severe physical illness, caused by a chemical imbalance of the dopamine receptors in the brain. Disturbing events, such as heartbreak, professional failure, or anything which severely depresses, can cause clinical depression. Feelings of loneliness, incompetence, loss of self-confidence, or guilt can be called symptoms of depression.
