Home remedies of cough and cold for babies

Hello mommies and daddies, the very first thing we should know about cough and cold is that why it happens? Before we go for the solution let us take a glimpse of the problem so that we can give better treatment to our babies and toddlers. There are several reasons for cough in babies but according to me, these are the common ones. Check out the reasons:

  1. Cough & cold in babies goes on increasing because of some virus or flu in the air. Normally, the babies catch them so quickly because of their sensitive body parts.
  1. If a baby comes in contact with someone who is suffering from a little cough can also spread the infection to babies. That’s why it is often told to the breastfeeding mothers to take care of them so that their babies stay away from many several infections.
  1. Some babies are allergic which results in making a cough to them. The allergy can be of anything like smoke, pollution or anything of which we can never think. My baby is allergic to direct sunrays on his face. He starts sneezing whenever we took him to the sunrays. As a parenting responsibility, it’s our duty to know the allergic things of our baby and keep them away from those things.
  1. If your baby is facing regular or continuous cough and cold then do consult with your doctor because sometimes it happens due to some severe ail like asthma, bronchitis and pneumonia.

By knowing the reason behind their child’s cough & cold, parents can prevent their disease. However, we cannot always stop them from going towards the allergic area but still, we can try our best to avoid the things which are harming our baby.

As we have discussed some of the basic problems now we will talk about the solution. The babies and toddlers are very sensitive and the continuous medical treatment will surely harm their bodies. It is better to treat your child through home remedies as soon as they born or when they are about 3-4 months so that their body became habitual to accept medical treatment through home remedies. The natural treatment has no side effects until and unless it’s taken in the correct way.

  • Breast Milk

As we all know that Breast milk is the best remedy to cure the baby’s injury. This is 100% natural and has many antibodies which work to cure any type of infection in the baby of six months and above. Whenever your baby suffers from several infections then give them your milk for several times. This will also wet their throat which might have dried because of cough.

  • Turmeric

If your baby is above 6 months you can add a pinch of turmeric to his food or milk. For centuries, turmeric is considered a natural antibiotic. Not only you can consume it but you can also make a paste of turmeric by mixing it in Luke warm water and applying it on the baby’s chest, forehead, back, and feet. The turmeric produces heat and as a result, it will exert the cold from the body.

  • Mustard oil massage

This is the best remedy and I always use it and it really works a lot. Warm the oil with two cloves and garlic in it and then massage your baby’s chest, back, palms and feet. Whenever my baby suffers from the cold I give him a full body massage from this oil along with discussed ingredients. Cover the body of your baby and don’t let them come in contact with AC or fans for at least 1 hour. The heat generates in his body to cure his cough and cold.

  • Coconut Oil

According to me, the mustard oil massage is best but if for any reason like mustard oil allergy to your baby or something else, you can replace it with coconut oil. Take one small bowl of oil; add 1 pearl onion, 2-3 tulsi leaves, and 1 betel stem. Heat them together in a high flame. Warm the oil and then massage your baby’s chest, back, foot and palms.

  • Honey

Honey is another natural ingredient that can be used for children above 1 year. The combination of Honey and black pepper, Honey and Ginger, and Honey and lemon relieves severe cough in babies. A teaspoon thrice a day will be more effective to your baby.

  • Steamer or inhalation

The steam will melt the cough in babies and they will feel relaxed. Doctors also advise the inhalation of steam because it is really proven the quick and effective process to come up from the cough and cold.

  • Vitamin C

Give your baby food that is rich in Vitamin C like amla, orange, and pineapple. Vitamin C helps in fighting the germs of cold. Avoid it if your baby has an allergy to Vitamin C or is suffering from a sore throat.

  • Desi Ghee

Warm the ghee and give massage to your baby’s throat with light hands. It helps in curing the cough and cold in all age groups of people.

These are some of my home remedies. Apply them to your child according to age his age. Avoid allergic things which will harm more to the baby. The baby’s immune and respiratory system is so sensitive that they will repeatedly face the cough and cold several times. So, don’t panic about their continuous allergies.
