Unfortunately, hair fall is a problem that is faced by all of us at one time or the other in our lives. While a certain amount of hair fall is average, hair fall in excess of 75-100 strands a day is cause for worry.
While the best way to nourish hair is to eat right and eat protein and iron-rich foods, there are cosmetic means available to improve blood circulation in the scalp and to strengthen the roots.
Often excessive use of shampoos and colorants on hair cause hair fall. The best way to treat this problem is to stop usage of any chemical-based products on hair and instead opt for herbal products. Often salon treatments involving use of flat irons and metal curlers cause hair fall. It is best to avoid any treatments involving heat to treat hair fall.
Eating right to stop hair fall:
Hair needs protein and B12 vitamins to stay healthy. Crash diets cut down on the nutrient supply to the scalp and cause hair fall. A balanced diet containing eggs, green leafy vegetables, pulses and cereals, seeds and nuts help make the hair healthy and controls hair fall. Vitamin B12 supplements can be taken in capsule form for 10-15 days continuously to stop hair fall.
Home remedies to stop hair fall:
- Hair fall can be stopped using simple home remedies with ingredients available at home. Following these on a regular basis can control hair fall and will also help in maintaining healthy hair growth.
- To improve blood supply, massage the scalp with your fingertips for 15-20 minutes daily. Stop when the scalp begins to tingle.
- Warm equal quantities of coconut, olive, and castor oil. Apply on the scalp with a wad of cotton. Cover with a shower cap and let soak for 20 minutes. Wash hair well.
- Use a powder made of dried hibiscus flowers, gooseberries, and fenugreek seeds as a hair pack. Add sour curds for conditioning which stimulate healthy and thick hair growth in addition to stopping hair fall.
- Hair fall caused due to iron deficiency can be cured by drinking a glass of coriander-spinach-lettuce juice daily
Beat the white of an egg with 2 spoons of olive oil. Use as a hair pack for 30 minutes before washing hair. - Apply warm almond oil on the scalp. Soak a towel in hot water and wring dry. Cover the scalp with a warm towel. The warmth opens the pores in the scalp and allows the oil to nourish the scalp. Repeat 3-4 times.

Never expose hair to harsh weather or chemicals used in cosmetics and treatments. Avoid being in direct sunlight. Use round-ended combs and brushes.
