Do Diet Or Weight Loss Pills Actually Work

It is human psychology to find the simplest way for treating a health problem. Weight loss cannot be an exception to this. Diet pills and weight loss pills gain importance this way only. We just swallow some pills for some days and stand on the weighing machine to check if our body weight has come down. At the same time, weight loss with these pills is not ruled out. They cause weight loss, but to some extent only. Weight loss cannot happen with diet pills or weight loss pills as a miracle overnight. If it happens while using these pills, we should try to rule out any other causes and after that only we should get relaxed.

Diet pills or weight loss pills fall under two categories – prescription pills and over-the-counter (OTC) pills. Other weight loss pills are available as dietary supplements. These dietary supplements do not undergo the process of approval by the Food and Drug Administration. There are mainly three choices in the prescription category, namely, orlistat, sibutramine, and phentermine. As a fat blocker, orlistat prevents fat absorption in the GI tract to some extent. However, it can cause side effects including fatty stools, oily discharge, and gas. It can also disable control of bowel movements. Sibutramine suppresses appetite by acting on the control center in the brain and creating a feeling of satiety.

Last but not the least, if you are on medication for treating your other conditions such as diabetes, seizures, or depression, it is possible that you lose weight because of these medications. Therefore, you cannot attribute this weight loss to your diet pills or weight loss pills.
