Difference Between Love And Infatuation

Love and infatuation are literally two completely different emotions, yet it’s almost impossible to tell the difference between them initially! So before you settle on tying the knot with your to-be “better half”, it’s important to know the difference between love and infatuation. Infatuation is more like a whole new shiny world, with lots of fun and excitement. Whereas, love, on the other hand, is like an old yet everlasting feeling of being understood, trusted, and cared for around that special someone. So even though there are no more firecrackers or violins’ playing around u, love still gives you the most beautiful feeling ever!

Infatuation is like having the most beautiful person next to you and going for a week-long vacation. Wherein, every day starts with a lot of fun, excitement, and entertainment, and every night feels like the most amazing party in town. But somewhere down the line, the vacation will end, and ultimately you will have to come back home; to someone who need not be perfect, but is still great for you and with whom you feel complete and content. That very feeling of fulfillment is called love. So in order to get to this feeling, you need to know the difference between love and infatuation and identify the fine line that separates them.

Infatuation only lasts for the first few months; thereafter the initial spark is gone. Ultimately you start realizing the other person’s flaws and eventually it’s over. This is exactly where the difference between love and infatuation stands out! Love doesn’t start off with a blast. In fact, love start on a very low note; wherein there’s no initial zing or excitement. But eventually, after the first few months; you start developing a sense of mutual understanding, trust, and faith, which eventually ends up as love. Unlike infatuation, love doesn’t die out after the first few months. Love is more of a long-term thing, it goes on for years! And sometimes even an entire lifetime.

People rush into relationships so soon; they barely take time to realize the difference between love and infatuation. But marriages or long-distance relationships based on infatuation don’t last much. So it’s better to be sure that you really love the person before you actually take such an important step. And if you’re serious about your current boyfriend or girlfriend, try to keep the relationship going for as long as possible, for all you know, after the first few months you may actually fall in love with each other! And the easiest way of knowing this is to check if all the annoying things have become acceptable and somewhat cute! After all, no one’s perfect, and it’s better to realize that before it’s too late!

Infatuation is mostly based on physical or materialistic needs; it never actually helps you when you really need help or support. This is where you can see the difference between love and infatuation. Love is more of “giving” than taking. In a healthy love-based relationship, both people are very happy and share equally. At some point in time, you’ll realize that if someone truly loves you, they can go up to any extent to help you in your time of need. So make sure all the relationships around you; your relatives, friends, and family are based on love. And to do so, it’s important that you recognize the difference between love and infatuation.


With people getting into relationships so soon, break-ups are bound to happen. What one really needs to do is realize the difference between love and infatuation. If your relationship is based on some kind of infatuation, that you’re being optimistic about, well then the bitter truth is that it may not work out. So be careful before you leap into a relationship, take your time and be sure that it’s something serious and not just some infatuation that’ll blow off within a few days(unless you want it to!). So the next time you’re a part of a relationship that is healthy but doesn’t have an extra zing; make sure you wait long enough! For all you know, you’ve got your little soul mate there!
