Ayurvedic Treatment For Chest Pain

Chest pain is discomfort or pain in the chest area. If the problem is related to the heart it is known as Angina Pectoris. Generally, chest pain occurs when the heart does not get enough supply of blood and oxygen.

In Ayurveda, chest pain is known as Vaksha Vedana or Uras Vedana that is identified by tightness or pressure felt in the chest region.  Chest pain also can be a symptom of other serious ailments that are usually considered medical emergencies. It is therefore important to determine if the chest pain is cardiac in nature.

Causes and Symptoms

The pain is felt in any area between the neck and the upper end of the abdomen. It is a squeezing or pressing sensation in the chest. There may be a constricting sensation at the throat. Heaviness may be felt on the left arm, shoulder, or elbow. The pain may spread to the arms, ears, teeth, stomach and the in-between the shoulder blades. The person may feel shortness of breath after exercising. In severe cases, these symptoms can be found even during rest.

Urovasthi

An Ayurvedic special treatment known as Urovasthi is performed on the chest to relieve chest pain. This is found to be effective in the case of muscular chest pains, heart disease, and respiratory ailments.  It is a process in which medicated oil is placed inside a boundary made of a herbal paste. Before this, the body is given a gentle massage with medicated oil that comprises a specially prepared warm herbal oil mixture. This oil is poured over the chest and then retained in the boundary made of herbal paste for about 45 minutes. The medicinal oils are capable of healing and improving the blood quality and building and strengthening healthy muscles and tissues.  This treatment is usually beneficial in muscular chest pains. This treatment is also useful in respiratory disorders and asthma. It rejuvenates the neuro-muscular system and the connective tissues.

Diet Recommendation
