Scabies is a skin infection caused due to infection by parasites through itch mites called Sarcoptes Scabiei that is tiny and 8 legged. This is a highly contagious disease known by other names such as crusted scabies, itch mite, mite, and mange, the seven-year itch, and Norwegian scabies. A touch is sufficient to spread the disease.

Scabies usually affects the skin in the upper portions of the body, the trunk areas, and also the lower limbs. The most vulnerable spots are the area below the collar line, buttocks, abdomen, and breasts in females, feet, ankles, thighs, and genital areas. It develops due to scratching and may also lead to cellulitis, resulting in redness, localized swelling and fever.

Ayurveda and Scabies
In Ayurveda Scabies is known as Kachchhu. Ayurveda treatment uses natural herbs and therapies without side effects. It is cost-effective and is also preventive. The treatment involves the use of Neem and sulfur powder.

Symptoms of Scabies
- The common symptoms of scabies are rash, itching, and superficial burrows on the skin. Itching may increase during the night. Pustules present on the feet and palms are also other symptoms of scabies.
- The skin areas below the collar line start turning reddish.
- The appearance of itching papules
- Some people may also have eczema, pus formation, scratching, and inflammation.

Causes of Scabies
Being contagious scabies spreads through physical contact. Scratching makes the condition worse. The infection causes itching and superficial burrows.
These burrows and nodules are often located in the crevices of the body, such as the webs of fingers, feet, toes, buttocks, elbows and under the breasts in women.

Ayurvedic Treatment of Scabies
- The herbal preparations prepared in the Ayurvedic method are very effective for curing scabies.
- Brahmivati pills (125 g) should be taken twice a day with water.
- Gandhak or purified sulfur is also highly effective.
- Maha Marichadi Taila is another Ayurvedic remedy.

Neem
Neem gives relief from itching. Neem soap can be used for baths. Patients can also bathe with water mixed with neem leaves and boiled. Chewing tender Neem leaves also helps. Consumption of raw neem leaves on an empty stomach early in the morning is very beneficial.
Sulfur
Sulfur is purified in the typical Ayurvedic process for treating scabies. The process improves the therapeutic quality of sulfur.
Yoga and Pranayama for Scabies
Ayurveda also recommends the regular practice of yogic exercises called Asanas and Therapies like Kunjal and Neti. Eating well-balanced diet and cold water baths and drinking plenty of water and fluids are also recommended.

Home Remedies for Scabies
- Apply juice of Apricot leaves on the affected skin
- Mix the juice of drumstick leaves with sesame seed oil and boil till the water dries up. Cool it and store it to be used on the affected areas.
- Make a mixture of turmeric powder and neem leaf with mustard oil. This paste works well for Scabies.
- Neem oil is very effective for curing scabies
- The powder of the bark of Peepul is very useful in treating scabies.
- Apply diluted vinegar to the affected areas.
- Tea tree oil can be applied to the affected areas
