Ayurvedic Cure For Tooth Ache

Teeth are small white structures present in the jaws. The root of the teeth is protected by gums and bones. Teeth are made of living tissue called the dental pulp. The pulp is protected by two layers, the outer hard enamel, and the inner dentin. Teeth are sensitive to pressure, heat, cold, and sweets.

The two most Common Causes of Toothache

Dental Cavities
Dental Cavity is the most common cause of toothache. Certain mouth bacteria convert sugars into acid. The acid dissolves enamel and dentin layers of the tooth and creates a cavity. Larger cavities that harbor growing bacteria result in a toothache.

Gum Disease

Gum Disease is the second most common cause of toothache. It refers to gingival inflammation and bone loss near the root of the tooth. Plaques accumulate along the gum line over a period of time. Plaques are a mixture of food, saliva, and bacteria. The gum disease is caused by the toxins secreted by the bacteria in the plaque. Early symptoms include gum bleeding and advanced symptoms include gum bleeding and toothache.

Bleeding gums

Pain while chewing or biting anything.

Sensitive to heat and cold 

Ayurvedic Treatment For Tooth Ache

Ayurveda treatments use herbal formulations, therapies, and procedures like massages and purgation to purify the system, diet and lifestyle adjustments, and yoga and meditation to improve immunity for making both the body and mind healthy. 

  • Turmeric or Haridra is good for bleeding gums
  • Black pepper or Maricha kills bacteria.
  • The bark decoction of Asoka Tree is used for gargling during any type of tooth disorder.
  • Neem and Babool are good disinfectants.
  • Clove oil is a natural pain reliever for toothache.
  • Garlic is a naturally available antiseptic and analgesic. It helps to reduce inflammation and pain.
  • Asafoetida mixed with little lime juice can be used on the affected area.
  • Gargling with lukewarm water and salt also helps to reduce inflammation and pain.
  • Cold or hot compression also provides relief from toothache. Some people respond well to cold compression while some respond to hot compression.

Ayurvedic Diet For Tooth Ache

  • Always prefer a soft diet like soft cooked rice, milk with corn flakes or oat flakes, etc.
  • Avoid chilled products like ice creams, cool drinks.
  • Avoid sugar-based products like chocolates, sweets, etc.
  • Avoid very hot food.
  • Consume lots of vitamin C; it is good for bleeding of gums and toothache. Lemon and Amla are rich sources of vitamin C.
  • Using onions in daily food is good for health as it has bactericidal properties. Chewing raw onion kills germs present in the mouth.

Prevention For Tooth Aches

  • Toothache can be prevented easily by taking simple precautions like oral hygiene and healthy eating and other habits.
  •  Brush teeth twice a day
  • Use good herbal toothpaste
  • Regular use of mouth wash
  • Practicing proper jaw and breathing exercises
  • Avoid smoking and chewing tobacco
  • Avoid eating too many sweets and chocolates
