Ayurvedic Cure For Pyorrhoea

Pyorrhoea is a gum disease characterized by pus formation at the root of the teeth and gums.  The gums become weaker and the teeth start loosening with bleeding or formation of pus. The pus goes into the digestive tract along with food and may cause further other diseases. Most digestive disorders are caused by unhealthy conditions of teeth and gums.  When the mouth is not cleaned properly after eating it can open the doors for infection of various organisms.  The loosened tooth that is painful can lead to cancer. It is vital that gums should be healthy to have healthy and strong teeth.

Ayurveda considers Pyorrhoea as an energy disorder due to poor diet and digestion– resulting from the disturbance of doshas in the body. It is seen as a result of poor digestion. The other factors are poor oral hygiene and hyperacidity.  The improperly digested food can produce toxins and the accumulated sites are affected. Ayurvedic remedy consists of herbal medication both internally and externally.  The condition should be treated without any delay or it may lead to digestive problems and other serious disorders.

Symptoms

The usual symptoms include pain in the gums and discomfort. The embarrassment of foul smell cannot be ruled out.

  • Too much tartar on teeth
  • Bad breath and unpleasant taste
  • Swelling of gums
  • Bleeding from the gums with pain
  • Ulceration of gums 

Causes

Poor oral hygiene is the main cause of this Pyorrhoea.  

  • Bacterial infection
  • Lack of dental hygiene
  • Lessor no intake of roughage in daily intake of food
  • Inflammation of gums

Ayurvedic Treatment of Pyorrhoea

  • Ayurveda recommends the use of the prop root of a banyan tree or the tender branches or twigs of the neem tree for brushing the teeth.
  • Brush teeth regularly using herbal tooth powders and rinse the mouth properly after eating.
  • Rinse mouth frequently with the water in which alum is added.
  • Babula, Bhadramustadi Gutika, and Bakula powders should be used as tooth powders to clean the teeth regularly as they have the potency to strengthen the roots of the teeth and gums.
  • Dasana Samskara Churna is another powder that can be used as tooth powder.
  • For constipated patients intake of Triphala powder or decoction is very effective.

Diet Advice

Foods like a bitter guard, potato, and drumstick should be taken generously as they are beneficial for the health of gums. Consume more foods containing Vitamin C, minerals, and other nutrients. More foods of roughage should be consumed to avoid constipation. Citrus fruits like lemon, green vegetables are good.
