Nephritis refers to the condition in which there is inflammation of the kidneys. It is a disease of the immune system causing damage to the kidneys, joints, skin, and brain. The inflammation may be in different parts of the kidneys due to different causes. Excess of fluid accumulation in the body tissues leads to swelling. The swelling of the face is often prominent in the morning.

Ayurveda and Nephritis
Nephritis is known as Vrikka Shotha in Ayurveda. Ayurveda lays emphasis on correcting the imbalance in the body to let the body heal by itself. Vitiation of any or all of the three doshas of the body leads to disorders and the correcting of these disturbances helps in restoring the body back to a healthy condition and also strengthens the resistance power. Symptoms Of Nephritis
The most common symptom noticed is edema in the face (Facial swelling). The patient may also suffer from diarrhea and biliousness.

- Blood in urine
- Nausea or vomiting
- Increase in blood pressure
- Headache
- Backache
- Abdominal pain

Home Remedies For Nephritis
- 8 to 9 bananas can be taken as a daily diet for 3 to 4 days. Bananas are low in protein and high in carbohydrates which is helpful in treating nephritis.
- Carrot juice taken with honey and fresh lime juice taken early in the morning is also highly effective.
- Triphala water or powder is helpful.
- Juice of radish in the dose of 250 ml to be taken 2 or 3 times a day that helps to increase the amount of urine.
- Grapes with its high water and potassium content are a good diuretic that is useful in treating nephritis.
- Vegetable juices remove the toxins and should be taken for 7to 10 days.
- Avoid chocolates and cocoa.

Precaution For Nephritis
The patient should reduce salt intake. Adequate rest and sound sleep are also important. Avoid sour and fried foods and drink lots of water. Remain physically and mentally active with mild exercise or walking.
