Ayurvedic Cure For Eczema

Eczema is a skin disease that may affect people of all ages both men and women and is more common among children. The skin appears dry and itchy due to a lack of moisture in the upper layer. Eczema is characterized by the spontaneous eruption of the skin with itching. This condition makes the skin prone to bacterial infection. The two types of eczema are wet and dry types. In the wet type, a watery substance can be found oozing out of the affected skin due to scratching. The dry type may be rough and may have cracks.

In Ayurveda, the oldest form of medical science, eczema is known as Vicharchika.  Ayurvedic treatments work on the principle that the life forces in the body should be in harmony with the outer universe and the three doshas in the body should be balanced. The imbalance is the cause of diseases and they can be cured by correcting the imbalances. According to Ayurveda, eczema is caused by pitta dosha vitiation.

Symptoms of Eczema 

  • Dryness, crusting of the skin
  • Swelling and redness of the skin with itching
  • Scaling or blistering of the skin
  • Cracking

 Ayurvedic Herbal Remedy for Eczema 

  • Neem: Neem leaves are used in medicines to cure eczema effectively
  • Haemafine Syrup: This is highly effective in treating eczema
  • Turmeric: Turmeric powder made into a paste and applied to the affected areas. It is an excellent antiseptic and curative agent.
  • Madhuca: The leaves are warmed after applying sesame oil on them and placed on the affected areas of the skin and covered with a bandage. This bandage should be changed at intervals of a few hours.
  • A mixture of equal parts of lime juice and linseed oil can be very useful in curing eczema.
  • Bloodletting is recommended in some cases.

To reduce the itching to prevent further aggravation of eczema, a moisturizer can be applied to the problem areas. Warm water should be used for bathing with a mild soap.   Avoid scratching and use massage to stimulate blood circulation in the area.

Diet Recommendation 

  • Hot and Sour items like pickles and sour curd should be avoided
  • Salt should be avoided totally.
  • Vegetables with a bitter taste like bitter gourd and drumstick should be taken regularly
  • A teaspoonful of turmeric powder mixed in milk taken twice daily works wonders for eczema.

Lifestyle Recommendation

Wearing comfortable cotton clothes is helpful as it can absorb perspiration

Avoid synthetic clothing as they block the evaporation of sweat

Keep the affected area open.

Herbal Remedies Which Helpful for Eczema

Neem Leaves– These leaves can be used in a variety of ways for relief from this disease.

Madhuca– Rub sesame oil on the leaves, warm it, then place on problem areas and cover with a bandage; needs to be changed every few hours

Rasa Manikya: This medicine is prescribed in acute cases of eczema for adults.

Haemafine Syrup– Surely one extra benefit of using this remedy is that it will also improve your skin complexion

Paradadi Malham: This ointment is recommended for adults for curing eczema to be applied thrice a day

Linseed Poultice– Mix equal amounts of lime water and linseed oil together

Brihat Marichyadi Thailam and Guduchyadi Thailam are to be rubbed on the affected area, especially for infants.

Shudda Gandhaka:  This medication should be consumed with honey twice a day.

Other treatment to reduce the symptoms

  • When bathing, use only warm water with a small amount of a mild soap
  • Generously apply moisturizer to affected areas
  • Try not to scratch
  • Massage– To stimulate your circulation
