  • Specific Yoga and Pranayama practice can help in losing weight naturally.
  • Amla powder is beneficial in treating obesity.
  • Herbs like Triphala, Musta, Guduchi, and Takrarishta can be taken with honey to reduce weight. Triphala Churna is very effective and it should be taken before going to bed.
  • The other Ayurvedic remedy for losing weight is to take Bruhat Panchamoola powder with honey.

Diet Recommendation in Ayurveda for Weight Loss

Ayurveda recommends that the body weight can be effectively controlled if the diet regimen with the following combination is followed:

  • 30 to 40% of the diet should consist of whole grains.
  • 20 to 30% of the diet should be of foods rich in proteins
  • 40 to 50% of the food should consist of vegetables and fruits.
  • Fluids should be consumed generously to keep the system well hydrated and cleansed which promotes health in general. Water intake also helps in reduced intake of solid food.
  • Bitter, astringent, and pungent foods are helpful in reducing Kapha which is mainly responsible for weight gain.
  • Cinnamon, Ginger, Coriander, and hot spices are helpful in burning fat.
  • Salads, beans, and dry cereals and eating foods rich in Vata and pitta qualities can work against the increase of Kapha dosha in the body.
  • Eating one big meal and making others with small controlled eating is a good way to lose weight.
  • Avoid too many salty and sweet or oily foods as they tend to increase fat deposits in the body and cause obesity.
  • Practice Yoga exercises and breathing exercises that help in reducing weight on a regular basis which will not only remove excess weight but also will prevent putting on weight.
